About cancer diseases

Cancer is a high spread group of diseases caused by abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade other parts of the human body. The number of new cases of cancer (cancer incidence) is 439.2 per 100,000 men and women per year (based on 2011–2015 cases).

Background

The story of this video begun in the year 2015, when Irina Alexeenko, an ambitious scientist came to us with a proposal to help their team of scientists with the demonstration of a conceptual new antitumor gene therapy drug. BiotechMed accelerator gave a boost to this promising idea.

Together, we created this video to take part in a competition called Generation S organised by the Government fund of funds Development institute of the Russian Federation. The level of competition was extremely high. Finally, this #startup won the first prize and received a grant for future trials. We were proud to witness this incredible moment when our colleagues got their most significant achievement. We aimed to make a realistic animation to help scientists portray a complex mechanism of action of AntionkoRAN-M. Our collective efforts proved to be a smashing success.

About the gene therapy drug

AntionkoRAN-M is a conceptual drug. It passed clinical trials in the Hertsen scientific institute in Moscow. These trials have shown high antitumor efficacy: increase in life expectancy from 72-86%, inhibition of tumor growth 75-83%, inhibition of metastasis 80-85%, depending on the type of tumor. The drug is designed for the treatment of head and neck cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer.

Cancer gene therapy animation

AntionkoRAN-M is a nanoparticle with a polycationic coating, which contains anti-tumor DNA. The active part of this DNA consists of a suicide gene and cytokine gene encoding an immuno-stimulator. Upon entering the tumor, the suicide gene activates the synthesis of a toxin that kills cancer cells, and the product of the immuno-stimulator attracts immune cells to the tumor. The combination of suicide gene and immuno-stimulator destroys cancer cells and activates a specific immune response. As a result, there is a significant decrease in the tumor growth and reduction of distant metastases.
